Maxine responded to Martha's advice about baking a fancy cake by telling us to "go to the bakery and they'll even decorate one for you" . . . a clever and cute response to make us laugh but there is nothing better than a home made cake, made from scratch, even if it is lopsided and has a hole in the middle. Which brings me to another joke that came through about a lady who made a cake for a church sale and because it came out with a hole in the center she frosted a toilet paper roll and fancied it up. She sent her daughter to buy the cake as soon as the bazaar opened only to find it had been sold. She went to a special affair to find her cake as the centerpiece and wanted to 'die' right then and there, until she heard the snooty hostess say, after being complimented on the cake, 'it is just a little something I made' and the original baker smiled knowing she now was off the hook.
Martha went on to spout about celery and Maxine asked "What is celery? . . . never heard of it."
Now if I had to choose sides on this debate, I would have to take sides with Martha as I love celery, crisp and delicious, sometimes filled with cream cheese or peanut butter . . . 'yum'.
About Martha's take on lime curing a headache. . . Maxine says " take a lime, mix it with tequila, chill and drink and all your pain is gone. " Okay Maxine wins, but what about the morning after?
Martha's take on wine is to serve it in a large glass with ice cubes and enjoy and if you have any left over, do not throw it away, but fill your ice cube trays and use it later. Of course you know what Maxine says . . . "Left over wine . . . HELLO!!!!"
So today, the beginning of your new March week, take Maxine's advice and 'live a little' . We know we do not have to be perfect and that is a boon. The dictionary reads: "1. The state, quality, or condition of being perfect. 2. The process or act of perfecting: 'the perfection of the invention took years'. 3. A person or thing considered to be perfect. 4. an instance or quality of excellence. Whew!!! That is a lot to have to live up to . . . be a Maxine and learn to go with the flow and enjoy every second you have and leave 'perfection' to the 'man upstairs' . . . Hugs to all.
